MADRID

My trip to Madrid in April 2024 was my first, but from the moment I arrived, it felt like coming home. There’s a laid-back vibe to the city, something casual yet welcoming that instantly puts you at ease. Whether you’re strolling down the elegant streets of Salamanca or soaking up the vibrant atmosphere in a local plaza, Madrid wraps you in its warmth—both from the sun and its people.

Madrid’s history reflects its deep cultural roots, dating back to the 9th century when it was founded as a Moorish fortress. Over the centuries, it has evolved into a bustling metropolis, while still maintaining a sense of community that makes it feel personal. This is a city where history and modern life blend seamlessly, and where plazas act as gathering points for locals and visitors alike. From the grandeur of Plaza Mayor to the smaller, lively spots in neighborhoods like Malasaña or La Latina, Madrid’s public spaces are where the city’s heart beats strongest.

And of course, the warmth of Madrid’s culture is perhaps best embodied in its food. While Madrid is known for tapas, the influence of pintxos from the north also makes its way onto many menus. It’s a city where dining is communal—small plates, shared among friends and family, where you feel like part of something bigger. Whether you're enjoying jamón ibérico with a glass of wine at an outdoor terrace or indulging in churros con chocolate at a late-night café, the food scene here is all about gathering and savoring the moment.

In Madrid, it was easy to feel at home, embraced by a culture that’s as warm and inviting as its people.
