PROVINCETOWN ATTRACTIONS
Provincetown has many things to do. You can make it a relaxing, spa getaway or an active biking, jogging, swimming event or a booze-filled weekend. Whatever your vibe is, P-Town has it for you.
The Causeway: By far my favorite thing to do in P-Town. Carefully find your way across the rocky path while on the lookout for sea critters on both sides! Outside of the shops, restaurants, and beaches of P-Town, the Causeway is a great activity that can take you 10 minutes to a couple of hours depending on what you want to do and how much time you have. The causeway is a man-made collection of rocks that connects the main land of Provincetown to the very tip! Go for a quick stroll, take pictures, watch the horseshoe crabs in the water, dodge the birds that are trying to break clams by dropping them from up high, or you can walk the causeway all the way down to the other end and hike up to the very last light house! Just make sure to time your walk with the tides because a portion of the Causeway could be submerged during high tide, making it dangerous to cross.
Commercial Street: The main street of P-Town where pedestrians and cars basically share the road. Delicious restaurants, unique local shops and beautiful art galleries flank you on both sides. Here are my favorite stores on Commercial Street:
MATE: a small clothing store that specializes in gay and P-town centric graphic prints
Human Rights Campaign (HRC): come support this organization that fights for LGBT rights
ST33LE ***: bright and colorful clothes. You’ll see many people at Tea Dance wearing these comfortable and bold clothes. Their swim trunks, in particular, are my favorite.
Sniffs of Adventure ***: home-made candles inspired by this couple’s adventures around the world. I never leave P-Town without at least 4 of their candles.
Puzzle Me This: I love a board game night so this store is my happy place.
Monte’s of Provincetown: a Christmas store. We love buying unique Christmas trinkets that remind us of P-Town. We’ve started collecting the tv box displays which are adorable.
Truro Vineyards: Now this one’s not in P-Town but it’s the next exit! It’s a lovely, open landscape. Come with friends, take a seat in their large garden and order one of their tasting flights. Take one of their wine bottles home too. They’re shaped like a lighthouse and make for great decorations.
Race Point Beach: This beach is the largest of the beaches in P-town. The sand is nice and powdery. The water is cold but not rough. Because it’s facing North, you’ll have a higher chance of seeing Whales and Seals along the horizon here than the other beaches.
Herring Cove Beach: This beach faces west so it’s perfect for sunset watching over the Atlantic Ocean.
Boy Beach: The unofficial gay beach of P-Town. It’s a bit of a hike from the main road and where the bike parking (linked in the title) is but the walk is part of the adventure.
Bike Trails: There are many bike trails going through the dunes at P-Town. I’m not a great cyclist. I actually learned how to bike later in life (26 years old!). The trails, to me, can get pretty tricky. Some of the hills are pretty steep and I find myself breaking a lot going downhill and a few times walking the bike uphill on 1 or 2 spots. Otherwise, the trails are straightforward and light. If you don’t have your own bike, we always rent ours at Ptown Bikes. They have great prices and are reliable.
Drag Brunch: If you’re going to be gay in P-town, be gay in P-town. That means their famous Drag Brunches featuring funny, talented and gorgeous Drag Queens. And I mean QUEENS because they are royalty! Crown and Anchor hosts many Drag events and they’re always fun. Book tickets ahead of time!
